Four-step Nutritional Consult

‍ ‍

FREE

Engage with a certified equine nutrition advisor to determine whether a nutritional consult of your feeding plan at your barn or facility is for you. We will answer any questions that you may have and go over the nutritional consult process and pricing plan.

1.Initial Meeting

2.Horse & Ration Assessment

If you determine that a full nutritional assessment is desired for your individual horse or facility, we will proceed with an in-person, comprehensive 60-90 minute evaluation that assesses your horse’s weight and condition, work level, current diet, health history, and feeding/performance objectives. To determine your horse’s current diet, we will need to weigh each feed, supplement, or forage to determine daily intake of calories, protein, fat, essential minerals, and vitamins. If desired, a hay or pasture sample will be taken at this stage for sending out to the lab for analysis.

3.Findings & Recommendations

We will determine whether your horse’s current diet is meeting basic requirements based on weight and activity level and if is balanced (i.e., correct ratios of nutrients). Predictive versus research-backed data sources will be used to determine whether there are shortfalls or excesses in nutrients such as digestible energy (calories), protein, or essential vitamins in the diet. We will then determine what feeds and/or supplements will address these deficiencies and formulate a multi-option, written diet plan and feeding best practices that meets your horse’s nutritional objectives.

4.Follow-up Support

Changes in a horse’s diet must be gradual and it may take 1-2 months to see any visible changes in the horse. We will book a thirty-minute follow-up session (text & email support in between sessions is available) designed to monitor body condition and any behavioral changes in your horse. We will discuss any feed refusals or intake issues, the economy of the new diet and feeding practices, and ration adjustment if necessary.
